Choose the custodian based on the file you need:
- Court case files and felony dispositions: Tompkins County Court, 320 N. Tioga Street, Ithaca, NY 14850, 607-216-6610. Call the clerk to confirm current counter hours before visiting.
- Sheriff arrest and police reports: Tompkins County Sheriff's Civil/Records Division, Public Safety Building, 779 Warren Road, Ithaca, NY 14850, 607-257-1345, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Current county jail custody: Tompkins County Corrections, 607-257-5316.
- Local-court matters: contact Ithaca City Court or the town or village court that heard the matter; the Court Case Lookup explains that split.
- Your fingerprint-supported New York history: request a personal Record Review from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services through IdentoGO.
- Police or incident reports: ask the police department that created the report. The sheriff cannot release another agency's file.
- Record sealing: file with the sentencing court and follow the applicable New York Criminal Procedure Law process.
The Sheriff's Civil/Records counter handles TCSO FOIL requests, TCSO police and crime reports, narrow local background checks, and sealing orders. Its $10 local check covers sheriff records only. It is not a countywide, DCJS, or statewide court search.
